The files are the same data as supplied to Scientific American The data represet the relative exposure-damage to the DNA molecule from solar radiation. Regions of pink represent the highest rates of exposure that occur over Mexico and parts of the Southwestern US. Hawaii, on the far left, is in a band of lesser exposure, yellow, showing the effect of altitude on UV exposure. Hawaii is assumed to be at sea level for this map. Of course, exposure on Mauna Loa would be increased compared to the beach area. The data are truncated at 65 North so that most of Alaska is not covered. However, the southern portions of Alaska are similar to Canada and have very low exposure rates to UV Files: *.pdf Adobe Acrobat format *.ps Postscript format uvgrlrev.pdf A copy of the paper published in Geophysical Research Letters
