NASA's Education Program manager from the Office of Mission to Planet Earth notified the Goddard DAAC March 1996, on its approval of a peer reviewed educational unsolicited proposal. The program manager said that the DAAC's educational series was " an exciting addition to the implementation of a strategically focused MTPE education program.

CoI: Ms. Carla Evans evans@daac.gsfc.nasa.gov
Remote Sensing Scientist: Mr. Ned Horning nedh@lightlink.com
Graphics and Publications: Ms. Diana Sunday sundance@daac.gsfc.nasa.gov* Audience: Earth System Science Teachers, High School and Undergraduate Students
* Prerequisite: Some chemistry and physics; no calculus
* Funding: NASA Mission to Planet Earth Education Office & NASA GSFC Director's Discretionary Fund
* Partners: Educational and Scientific community
* Final Product: Web & CD-ROM (text in Adobe Acrobat and image analyses software for PC and MAC)
* Evaluation: Conducted and completed by educators and students
* Assessment: NASA Classroom of the Future and West Chester University
The Goddard DAAC is designing and developing the products in conjunction with scientists, teachers and experts in science education. Although the proposed products are designed for ready use by educators and students , the DAAC will work with educators to develop workshops and to conduct demonstrations at conferences. Product distribution will be free on CD-ROM and on the Goddard DAAC Web site. The proposed educational effort fulfills NASA's plan "to promote excellence in America's education system through enhancing and expanding scientific and technological competence." In contributing to the achievement of the NASA, MTPE, and Goddard educational goals, the DAAC is producing educational materials that will be in demand by Earth science educators who teach global environment issues. The duration of the proposal is for 3 years contingent upon NASA procurement regulations and the availability of funds.
